If you live in the Bay Area…

Tomorrow at 7am, my 6 teammates and I will be dipping our tires into the Pacific at Ocean Beach in San Francisco, and leaving on our 4000 mile bike ride back to Boston. For everyone who lives in the Bay Area, It’d  be great to have a cup of coffee together at Java Beach Café at 7am before we leave. Let me know if you’ll be going! Help me reach my goal of raising $702 by tomorrow night to reach $5000 total to benefit the joint work of FACE AIDS and Partners In Health. RAA Invite - Tire Dipping

Pre-Ride Prep: 36 hours to Showtime

Check out them undies.

Some pictures from my training and prep for the ride. With less than 36 hours until I leave on my second cross country bike ride, I’m starting to get more and more excited. Longer post coming in the next few days.

My bagses

Ryland, Kip, Claire, and Gordy Webb were gracious enough to put me up in San Francisco the weekend before the ride starts. We took this picture after a fathers' day hike through the mountains of Marin on Sunday June 16th. Huge shout out to Claire and Grillmasters Ryland and Kip for their amazing food. I haven't eaten so well in a while.

On top of Twin Peaks in SF after training ride. I need a haircut. Fun fact: There's a gay bar in SF called Twin Peaks.

A kind stranger took this picture after I finished a training ride on top of Twin Peaks in San Francisco. I need a haircut.

The Route

Here’s where I’m going to be, and when I’m going to be there this summer – let me know if we’ll overlap!

Giaca Flacka Flame and the Space Program

Giaco Corsiglia (in the white) and Nasa Enkhbold (in the blue) are two Amherst College rising juniors who are biking together from NYC to San Francisco this summer. They’re pretty cool, and Amherst College photographer Rob Mattson took a pretty awesome picture of us three the other day. Keep your eyes peeled for an article about their trip, as well as mine, on the amherst.edu website.Screen Shot 2013-05-29 at 4.59.53 PM

First things First

With the summer fast approaching, I figure that its about time to publish that first blog post. For those of you who don’t know, I’m somewhat obsessed with biking. My first journey took me from Savannah, Georgia to Los Angeles, California, and while I haven’t done anything quite as extensive since then, I take every excuse I can get to hop on my bike and go for a day-long ride around the Pioneer Valley.

This summer, however, I’m planning on re-energizing my biking by biking 4000 miles from San Francisco, California to Boston, Massachusetts. Unlike my past rides, however, the purpose is not for personal adventure. Rather, I am riding as a member of the 2013 Ride Against Aids team, a group assembled by the FACE AIDS organization that includes seven other undergraduates from universities across the country. Together, we will stop at community centers and schools in order to speak to, and hopefully inspire, other students to help join the movement of young people that is necessary to put an end to the HIV/AIDS virus that 34 million people are forced to live with today. Each of us have set the goal of raising $10,000 before we bike out of San Francisco on June 21st. If you want to learn more about the comprehensive HIV/AIDS treatment that FACE AIDS and their partner organization, Partners In Health work to provide, you can visit their website at http://www.faceaids.org or, you could visit my secure donation page at https://secure.qgiv.com/hobnob/account/23840

I’ll keep updating this blog as fundraising progresses through the spring. In the meantime, feel free to shoot me an email at esteinbrook15@amherst.edu if you have any questions!
